Psychiatrist - Addictions

General Overview

The Psychiatrist will assist the Medical Director in the supervision of the psychiatric medical operations of the treatment programs and is medically responsible for all patients enrolled in treatment programs (Detoxification, Intensive Inpatient Treatment, Residential, Day/Night Program and Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient and AHCA Mental Health RTC). The Psychiatrist must be able to assess for appropriateness individuals applying for admissions as well as the physical and mental stability for both residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment as well as Mental Health RTC. The Psychiatrist will perform or oversee the performance of psychiatric medical history and for each patient. The Psychiatrist will assist with the supervision of the medical staff. The Psychiatrist will meet with each patient on an ongoing basis as needed and in accordance with DCF and The Joint Commission and AHCA requirements. The Psychiatrist shall adhere to federal and state regulations and shall perform all duties within the scope of his/her licensure. In addition, The Psychiatrist will demonstrate desire, willingness and proficiency in developing and embracing the model, mission and philosophy of RRC with respect to job responsibilities, supervision of staff and program goals and compliance with regulatory standards.  

Riverside Recovery of Tampa is the leading provider of treatment programs for adults who are struggling with chemical dependency, substance use and abuse disorders and accompanying/ co-occurring behavioral issues.  RRT has every level of care to meet the treatment needs of the patient with Detox, Residential, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) Day/Night Treatment and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).  Through these different levels of care, we will use a variety of evidence-based practices in individual, family and group, along with experiential therapies, to treat the patient and bring them to a place of healing and recovery.


  • Provide comprehensive mental health care to patients suffering from behavioral problems and mental health disorders
  • Focus on psychiatric/mental health maintenance and wellness
  • Use both medicinal and therapeutic interventions in treatment plans to help patients
  • Implement medical protocols for patients as appropriate
  • Directly report to the Medical Director
  • Manage the medication needs for all program participants
  • Be available on call for medical emergencies relating to program participants
  • Participate in marketing and outreach efforts


  • Valid and active Florida Psychiatrist License
  • Three (3) year of experience treating substance abuse and addiction
  • Valid And active Federal DEA certificate (and provide documentation of renewal of each on or before expiration date)
  • Current and active Suboxone License/Certification
  • Valid and active PMH Certification in the state of Florida
  • ASAM/ABAM certification preferred
  • Must be able to pass a level 2 criminal history background check
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen


  • Individual and family psychotherapy
  • Advanced assessment in psychiatric-mental health nursing
  • Psychopharmacology
  • Skill and experience with medical detoxification
  • Clinical experience in crisis intervention
  • Five (5) years’ experience working with adults with addictive disorders and dual diagnoses
  • Skilled in supervising, evaluating, and training nursing staff
  • Knowledge of specialized markets, including veterans, impaired professionals and dually diagnosed clients
  • Knowledge of DCF requirements relating to medical care
  •  Knowledge of HIPAA privacy requirements
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and credentialing relating to medical car


Departmental Operations

The Psychiatrist shall be available to work closely with the Facility’s CEO or his/her designee, to solve departmental problems, improve departmental efficiency, create a professional atmosphere conductive to a high standard of patient care; and, investigate patient complaints and incident reports. The Psychiatrist is responsible for supporting the facility’s policies pertaining to employees and patient care. The Psychiatrist shall be available to work with the facility to revise existing policies and develop new policies as the need arises. The Psychiatrist shall be available to work closely with the Medical Director to ensure a high standard of patient care; to ensure that proper patient care protocols are maintained; to coordinate work flow between the various departments within the facility; and to assist in the in-service training of departmental personnel as appropriate. What follows is an overview of possible functions the Psychiatrist may perform and will vary depending on the needs at the facility.

Administrative Function

It shall be the responsibility of the Psychiatrist to assist the Medical Director in the oversight of the administration and management of the medical staff of the facility in conjunction with the Nursing Director. Their performance shall be evaluated based on their professional attitude, professional capabilities, patient relation attitudes, and overall effectiveness. The Psychiatrist may be asked occasionally to counsel the medical staff regarding potential problem areas.

The Psychiatrist shall familiarize themselves with the criteria for alcohol and drug rehab facilities (including detoxification facilities) as established by DCF and The Joint Commission, including requirements relating to medical care, standards and credentialing will be responsible for ensuring the facility’s compliance with such standards.

 Work Performed

  • Performs Psychiatric Evaluations and follow ups
  • Manages Psychiatric medications for clients
  • Performs History and Physical examinations as needed and provides accurate documentation in the client’s medical record. Implements treatment plans in collaboration with Facility Medical Director.
  • Actively participates in the preparation for and process of all accreditation and licensure inspections as requested by Facility CEO or Medical Director.
  • Is available to the Medical Staff for assistance in matters regarding the delivery of care to the patients.
  • Is available to the Facility’s personnel for consultation purposes.
  • Provides in-service programs as needed to the medical staff.
  • Acts as liaison between Medical staff and the facility management and CEO on the medical director’s behalf
  • Participation in Medical Staff organization and committees.
  • Participates in Company’s Risk Management Program.
  • Assists in evaluating applicants for employment from a medical standpoint in the facility.
  • Consultation and assistance to facility in preparation of its periodic and annual reports at request of the facility Medical Director.
  • Participates in Peer to Peer reviews as needed
